Back in April, the Whitehouse requested an additional $500 million from Congress for the Technology Modernization Fund as part of the fiscal 2022 discretionary funding request. The request stems from the agencies need to update and secure very outdated and antiquated information systems. The additional $500 million would be on top of the $110 million increase requested for the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and $750 million requested as a reserve for agencies IT enhancements.
The General Services Administration (GSA) will manage the Technology Modernization Fund as well as other government-wide funding for IT modernization. “These funds will allow GSA to support the administration’s efforts to tackle the climate crisis, promote economic opportunity, and strengthen federal cybersecurity,” said Acting Administrator Katy Kale. “These critical investments will enhance support to federal agencies and the public, while making our nation’s infrastructure more secure and sustainable.”
