According to research from Gartner, 70% of new applications developed by organizations will use no code or low code technologies by 2025, this is a big jump from the less than 25% reported in 2020.

The increase in no code/low code application platforms is also driving the increase of citizen development. Citizen developers are non-technical resources that can build applications without having any software expertise. They can create workflows, business rules, and functionality by using a graphical interface, sometimes without writing a single line of code.

Research from Boston-based Mendix indicated the demand for developers has seen a dramatic increase among IT professionals. Nearly 6 in 10 (57%) say the number of staff needed for software development is increasing while the cost of software development is rising (61%). Additionally, according to PMI, 86% of IT decision makers reported that the biggest challenge they face when trying to digitally transform their business is a lack of software developers. For many enterprises, the solution is no code/low code.

The trend toward no code/low code adoption is helping enterprises accelerate the pace of development by democratizing how software is being built to include business users. No code/low code can build applications faster using already existing talent and for a fraction of the cost.
